MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or academic equivalent.
NFPA 1001 - Fire Fighter I & II Certified from an accredited institution; (with either Proof of Pro Board Seal or IFSAC).
Completion of the Ontario Fire Administration-Candidate Testing Program Stage Two at time of application.
Completion of the Ontario Fire Administration-Candidate Testing Program Stage Three certification, expired certificates acceptable.
Valid and current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
Valid Ontario Driver’s License with ability to obtain DZ license from the date a conditional offer of employment is extended.
The ability to attain certifications within 18 months from the date a conditional offer of employment is extended.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
NFPA 1006 Certified in Surface Water Rescue – Level II (2013 Standard) or Operations Level (2021 Standard)
OR
Completion of OFAI Swim Test (as verified by possession of a current and valid certificate)

**Starting Salary: $65,230.00 (Annual incremental increases over a four-year classification process: Classification Salary Range: $65,230.00 - $108,716.00 per annum**)

Process:
Step 1: Apply Online
All applicants are required to complete and submit the following as part of their application:
Complete the online questionnaire
Upload all certificates required as part of the minimum qualifications
Submit cover letter and resume
Once you have successfully submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email informing you that your application has been received.
Step 2: Resume Screening
Applicants will initially be reviewed and assessed in relation to the qualifications and experience outlined in the job advertisement. Applicants that most closely meet the qualifications and experience are selected to proceed to the next stage in the selection process.
Step 3: Pre-Screening Situational Interviews
Selected applicants will be invited to attend an in person pre-screening situational interview. Applicants who are successful will proceed to next stage in the process.
Step 4: Situational Behavioural Interviews
Applicants who successfully completed the Pre-Screening Situational Interviews will be invited to participate in a 1 hour Structured Behavioural Interview with two panel members comprising of one Human Resources Representative and a member from the Brampton Fire and Emergency Services management team.
Applicants that successfully pass both the Pre-Screening Situational Interview and Structured behavioural interview will proceed to the next stage.
Note: Applicants may be asked to bring further documentation if required.
Step 5: Decision Making
Candidates that successfully meet the cut-off score for Pre-Screening Situational Interview and Structured Behavioural Interview will then be assessed for optimal fit with organizational goals.
Step 6: Pre-Employment Checks
Pre-employment checks will be conducted for shortlisted candidates and include the following:
Vulnerable Criminal Record Search (must be provided at this stage)
Education Verification
Professional References
Any additional employment verifications specific to the job requirements
All pre-employment checks must be met in order to proceed to Step 7
Step 7: Offer of Employment
Once all the conditions of employment have been satisfied an offer of employment or an 18 month conditional offer will be extended. This will be followed up with a written offer letter and all the necessary instructions and documents to get you set up as a new City of Brampton employee.
Step 8: Training
All newly hired Firefighters will commence a 16 week training program at our location 425 Chrysler Drive, Brampton, Ontario.
