Currently, our Emergency Protective Services (EPS) department has an Emergency Service Maintainer (ESM) opportunity. The Emergency Service Maintainer will perform emergency services response to actual Bruce Power Site incidents for fire, medical, search and rescue and HAZMAT and perform maintenance and inspection on all emergency related equipment and associated systems. 

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

More than one (1) position may be available.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Perform emergency response to actual site incidents within the prescribed time limits when called upon

  • Perform inspection on all EPS-Fire emergency related equipment and associated systems

  • Conduct Fire Inspections, Transient Combustible Material Inspections, Hot Work Inspections and Rescue Planning for Confined Spaces

  • Is accountable for maintaining emergency response capability and performing duties as described below using their best endeavors to achieve assigned tasks on time, within quality standards and resource constraints

  • Must be physically capable of performing these duties consistent with the work requirements

  • Shall maintain a level of physical fitness that is relevant to the type of work being performed, which involves successfully completing the annual physical incumbent testing as required by CSA-N293

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining the radiological qualification level of "Yellow"

  • When circumstances make it likely that a task cannot be completed, as assigned, they should seek further direction from the manager/supervisor

Knowledge and Skills:

Capable of performing all or part of the following duties depending upon the needs of the job:

  • Respond to actual site incidents when called upon. This would include but not limited to incidents such as fire emergencies, first aid/medical situations, hazardous materials response, rescues, and health & safety situations

  • Perform inspections, testing and maintenance of EPS-Fire equipment, both personal protective and field equipment

  • Attend and provide input to pre-job or post work briefings regarding "hot work", e.g. welding, grinding

  • As directed by the supervisor, review hot work permits, conduct field inspections, and take corrective action. If required, refer to supervisor for resolution

  • Attend and provide input to pre-job or post work briefings regarding confined space or elevated work

  • Perform visual inspections of all station fire exit doors and other signage

  • Record and sign off the appropriate forms. Conducts and/or participates in station exercises, such as emergency preparedness drills, shift practices and shift EPS-Fire skill training

  • Perform inspections, testing, fit tests and maintenance on various emergency and hazardous response equipment including but not limited to, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), firefighting equipment, fire extinguishers

  • Complete and maintain training qualifications required for the position.

  • Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and holidays

Education and Experience

The successful applicant must meet the following criteria and include copies of certificates with their application:

  • Require a minimum of Grade XII education or equivalent

  • Community College certificate in a recognized firefighting certification course for "Pre-Service Firefighter", NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II OR

  • A current Municipal or Full time Fire Department member with a minimum of 2 years’ experience and an Ontario Fire College certificate for Module A/B, or NFPA Firefighter I/II. Candidate must provide a verification letter such as "Record of Employment" from the Municipality or Fire Chief

  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate

  • Valid York University Fitness test certificate

  • Must hold a valid “D” license, with a “Z” license endorsement or if successful to role obtain within 12 months 

Additional consideration will be given to those who:

  • Enrollment in an accredited Ontario Fire College Firefighter certification program

  • Hold the current rank of a Captain or Senior Officer

  • Certification in a recognized Fire Prevention / Protection program

  • Certification/Qualifications for Advanced Medical Patient Care such as St. Johns Emergency 1st Responder, Paramedic, Nursing
